PROJECT SUMMARY
Schley Nelson Architects partnered with ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital, previously the Community Health Center of Branch County, in a Medical/Surgical Nursing Unit project that consisted of the comprehensive remodeling of the 2nd and 3rd Floor Nursing Units. The project required extensive phased demolition of the existing 2nd and 3rd floor patient rooms and center core spaces. The result of the project included private rooms with more space for patients, families, and healthcare providers. The center core areas were also redone to create a more user-friendly space for staff to better serve their patients.
The renovation produced a drastic change in aesthetic appearance to the facility as well as to the functional amenities. Schley Nelson put special attention to ensuring the hospital’s amenities were consistent with safe, state of the art rooms. The updated room designs offer an increased overall usability for nurses as well as families, largely due to the new patient bed headwall configuration and room built-ins which primarily positioned care directly toward the needs of the patient. The design concepts of these rooms were set forth to configure overall solution for predominantly private single room use to enhance quiet patient care areas and to support strategies that limit the transmission of infection between patients. Schley Nelson made sure to take steps to ensure that the finishes in all the areas of the remodeling would be changed or replaced with comprehensive thinking that correlated with healing environment methodologies and evidence based design.
